At Western Kentucky Energy, we're excited about the future. We know the dynamic impact lower electricity bills can have on improving the quality of life and growth in our communities. And your communities are our communities.
That's why we're also focused on promoting economic growth and building new business partnerships and friendships here. Everyone at WKE is working hard to make Western Kentucky a better place to live and work.
Western Kentucky Energy generates electricity at four stations that it operates and maintains under a 25-year lease agreement with Big Rivers Electric Corporation. WKE is a wholly owned subsidiary of E.ON U.S. and is not affiliated with Big Rivers Electric Corporation.
Western Kentucky Energy is a subsidiary of E.ON U.S., Kentucky's primary energy services provider and one of the nation's largest, low-cost energy firms. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, E.ON U.S. is a diversified energy services company with businesses in power generation and project development; retail gas and electric products and utility services; and asset-based energy marketing.
E.ON U.S.'s main Kentucky-based subsidiaries — WKE, LG&E and KU — form a dynamic partnership that generates strength, vigor and tremendous benefits throughout the commonwealth. Together, they touch nearly 100 counties across Kentucky where combined resources and people help provide superior energy services; and promote community and business partnerships, economic development, education and a better way of life throughout Kentucky.
The Soaper Hotel
In 1924, construction began on a modern hotel in downtown Henderson, Ky. The six-story, brick masonry cost $285,000 and included 104 rooms. The Soaper Hotel had every convenience of the most modern hotel of its time, including a coffee shop, assembly hall, ballroom, barber shop, drug store and beauty parlors.
Throughout the years, this neoclassical building has been the home to many businesses in downtown Henderson. It currently is the home of Western Kentucky Energy's headquarters.
