Frequently Asked Questions

Who can apply for the matching grant?
Managers and above may apply for the matching grant. Employees are encouraged to suggest to their managers activities that will target weight loss, promote exercise or improve fitness levels within their workplace. Programs such as Weight Watchers at Work, "Biggest Loser" contests, walking clubs, yoga classes, etc., are examples of current programs taking place throughout the company.

How many wellness programs will the matching grant support in a given year?
Funds may be allocated to one program or among many programs within a department/work group. For example, a manager may want to purchase healthy snack foods for his/her department. Or a manager may have a nutritionist come to a facility to meet with employees. The matching grant money may be distributed over the course of a year to fund those items.

My co-workers and I are interested in bringing a personal trainer to our facility to offer fitness instruction. Would the ChooseWell grant cover this?
Yes, but first discuss with your manager the wellness program that you and your co-workers would like to implement. Your manager must then apply for the matching grant. The activity must be open to all employees in your department and promoted as such, so that everyone in your work group will have the opportunity to participate.

If a grant is approved for a program within our department, does this program count toward the Choose2Act incentive?
Absolutely! By participating in local wellness activities, this will help you achieve your individual requirements for the Choose2Act incentive, which rewards employees $75 for taking specific steps toward creating or maintaining a healthy lifestyle in 2008.
