Prior to her promotion to Senior Vice President in January 2006, Pottinger served as Vice President, Human Resources from May 2002. Before that Pottinger held the position of Division Human Resources Director and was responsible for delivering all human resource services for LG&E's Distribution and Retail divisions. Soon thereafter, she facilitated the integration of human resource functions and the One Utility initiative following the merger of LG&E Energy Corp. and Kentucky Utilities Corporation.
She joined Louisville Gas and Electric in 1987, and prior to her role as Division Human Resources Director held a number of corporate human resource management positions, overseeing organizational and executive development, compensation and human resource information systems, employee relations and human resources development.
Pottinger has a diverse background in human resources and industrial and organizational relations, including training and development, staffing, organization design and development, survey development, compensation strategy, executive development, succession planning and change management. Prior to joining LG&E, she worked with Nationwide Insurance Companies, Columbus, Ohio, in Organization Development. She has also served as a human resources consultant for companies such as international banking and investment giant Citicorp; Barnes Hospital in St. Louis; and Accuray Corporation, the Ohio State Government and Metro Women's Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Pottinger's broad educational background supports her experience. In 2003 Pottinger attended the E.ON Executive Program at Harvard Business School, and in 2002 she attended the International Institute for Executive Development in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 1995 she completed the Kellogg Graduate School of Management Executive Development Program, where she received the Best Communicator Award. She has a Ph.D. and a master's degree in industrial/organizational psychology from The Ohio State University, where, as an instructor of undergraduate students, she earned the University Distinguished Teaching Award, was published twice, and graduated first in her class. Pottinger received a bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, where she earned the Distinguished Senior Award given to one student for outstanding achievement in research, academic performance and student-life activities; and graduated summa cum laude. Pottinger is a native Louisvillian, graduating from Assumption High School as valedictorian. She has also served on the Adjunct Faculty at the Bellarmine University School of Business in Louisville teaching Business Management. Pottinger is a member of the Human Resource Planning Society, the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, Society of Industrial Organizational Psychology, and the Society of Psychologists in Management. She is also a board member of The Louisville Urban League and The Louisville Zoo, and a past board member of Maryhurst.
