LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With the holiday season upon us, and so many people left to shop for, give the gift that everyone can appreciate this year – a home utility gift (HUG) certificate from Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company.

A HUG is a gift certificate that credits the utility account of any LG&E or KU customer. Instead of working like a traditional gift certificate, which can get lost or become obsolete if an establishment goes out of business, a HUG is a credit placed directly on a customer's account. The credit is automatically subtracted from the customer's next bill. The purchaser receives a gift certificate to present to the recipient indicating the amount of the purchase.

"Even with wholesale natural gas costs at six-year lows, many families are on fixed budgets because of the sluggish economy and are trying to manage their energy usage more wisely," said John P. The certificates are available during normal business hours at all customer service walk-in centers. LG&E customers should visit the walk-in center located at 820 W. Broadway. In order to credit the proper LG&E or KU account, customers should be prepared to provide the address of the HUG recipient.
