WKE's Sebree Station Celebrates 1.5 Million Hours Without a Lost-Time Injury

HENDERSON, Ky. — Employees of Western Kentucky Energy's (WKE) Sebree Station celebrated a safety milestone yesterday, working more than three years and 1.5 million labor hours without an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) lost-time injury.

"Safety is always the number one priority at WKE, and achieving such success proves that our employees are dedicated and willing to go the extra mile to keep this a core value at all of our facilities," said Bob Berry, Sebree General Manager.

Warren Hurst, Sebree Station Committee member, added: "All the employees at the Sebree facility have taken to heart the WKE safety message that 'Safety Begins Between the Ears' and put it into practice everyday."

OSHA, a national organization whose mission is to ensure safe and healthful workplaces in America, has honored WKE and its sister companies, Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company, in the past for similar accomplishments.

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), the recordable injury rate for electric generation facilities nationwide is 5.2. WKE plants are well below the national recordable injury rate at .83.

Tim West, Chairman, IBEW 1701 and Sebree Station Safety committee member, congratulated each Sebree Station employee: "It took tremendous effort and commitment by everyone to reach this milestone and every employee deserves recognition and credit for doing their part."
