E.ON U.S. Conserves Energy Through "Change a Light, Change the World" Campaign

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — On Oct. 3, E.ON U.S. will illustrate a commitment to its customers and to saving energy by participating in the ENERGY STAR® "Change a Light, Change the World" campaign. The national campaign, which is in its eighth year, encourages people to change the world one light bulb at a time by using compact fluorescent bulbs instead of regular incandescent ones. The effort is a national call-to-action by the U.S. Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency to conserve energy and reduce carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.

Any customer who visits one of the 27 LG&E and Kentucky Utilities business office locations on Oct. 3 will receive one free ENERGY STAR-rated CFL. A total of 18,000 bulbs will be given away throughout the day. While there, customers will be invited to take their efforts a bit further by signing the ENERGY STAR® pledge. By signing the pledge, customers make a commitment to change at least one light in their home to a compact fluorescent bulb as a way to save energy and decrease global climate change.

The "Change a Light, Change the World" campaign comes just three months after E.ON U.S. filed an application with the Kentucky Public Service Commission to enhance its energy efficiency programs.

"In terms of building the most effective and efficient energy practices in the world, the 'Change a Light, Change the World' campaign is a stepping stone to where we, at E.ON U.S., are today and where we plan to be in the future," said John P. Malloy, Vice President, Energy Delivery — Retail Business. "It also presents a wonderful opportunity for us to proactively give back to our customers during October, which is our Customer Service month."

Because CFL bulbs contain a small amount of mercury, customers will also be urged to recycle the bulbs after use by taking them to their nearest hazardous materials collection center.
