E.ON U.S. Foundation Provides $50,000 In Scholarships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The E.ON U.S. Foundation has awarded $50,000 to the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities' Named Scholars Program for student scholarships. E.ON U.S. is the parent company of Louisville Gas & Electric Company (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities Company (KU).

The $50,000 contribution funds one scholarship at each of the 13 independent colleges and universities located in the LG&E and KU service territories. E.ON U.S. scholars are selected by the institutions on the basis of financial need and academic achievement. Chip Keeling, Vice President of Communications for E.ON U.S., presented a check to the 2006-07 scholars during AIKCU's annual recognition banquet. The E.ON U.S. Foundation was one of four AIKCU Named Scholars' partners recognized during an event at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in Frankfort.

"This scholarship program demonstrates E.ON U.S.'s continued support of higher education and young people across the Commonwealth," said Keeling. "As the leaders of tomorrow, they are beginning to shape their futures to become contributing members of the community."

AIKCU President Gary S. Cox added: "We're extremely grateful that E.ON U.S. has carried on the tradition of supporting our students that Kentucky Utilities began back in the 1950s. The significant financial support that E.ON U.S. provides to our students underscores their outstanding corporate citizenship and their commitment to the future of Kentucky."

The AIKCU Named Scholars program allows foundations, corporations, and other donors to directly support students at all 20 of Kentucky's nonprofit, independent colleges and universities through a single contribution.
