LG&E Reminds Customers How to Verify Identity of Its Employees
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — (LOUISVILLE, Ky.) With the arrival of spring, many people are going outdoors to work in their yards or tackle a project. Louisville Gas and Electric Company employees, or contractors who have been hired to work on the company's behalf, frequently work in neighborhoods across the community and may need to talk face-to-face with customers regarding a meter reading issue or project that may affect the customer's service.
As with any public-facing organization, LG&E encourages customers to always obtain positive identification in the event someone appears at their door stating they are there on the company's behalf. Sometimes there are legitimate reasons for the person to need access to the customer's home. However, customers should not hesitate to contact LG&E before allowing the person inside their home. The company advises customers to follow these steps whenever someone claims to be an LG&E representative:
- Ask to see the person's company-issued employee or contractor identification card. An authentic LG&E ID — whether issued to an employee or a contractor — shows the company's logo. An employee ID card, always has the employee's name and color photograph on the front as well.
- If in doubt, ask to see a second form of identification, such as a driver's license.
- Ask the person to wait outside. Lock your door and call LG&E at (502) 589-1444 to verify the person has a legitimate reason to enter your home. Our employees and contractors won't mind waiting while you call.
