LG&E to Host Women in Science and Engineering Expo
(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – Reinforcing a positive image and promoting the acceptance of women in science will be the focus of the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) expo, to be held this Friday, March 24, at the E.ON U.S. Center downtown.
Formed four years ago at duPont Manual High School, WiSE encourages female involvement in math and science classes, starting at an early age. LG&E employees will host the WiSE expo, where the focus will be to encourage young girls to proactively pursue science and math careers.
By setting up the expo as a field trip for fifth-grade students, WiSE hopes to encourage female participation as well as male acceptance of women in math and science classes and fields.
The day-long expo also will focus on female self-esteem, and more than 70 students from three area elementary schools will be attending. During the expo, students will participate in workshop stations administered by Dupont Manual’s WiSE club members. This marks the fourth year LG&E has hosted the event.
LG&E is a wholly-owned subsidiary of E.ON U.S. LLC that serves 318,000 natural gas and 390,000 electric customers in Louisville, Ky., and 16 surrounding counties.
