LG&E Energy Named 2004 Kentucky Industry of the Year

(LOUISVILLE, Ky. - November 22, 2004) The Associated Industries of Kentucky (AIK) has named LG&E Energy, the holding company of Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company, the 2004 Kentucky Industry of the Year Award in the large business category.

The company was selected for its leadership in making key contributions to the community through increased investment and new jobs; innovative and entrepreneurial leadership in products, production methods or services; active involvement in legislative issues that impact Kentucky business and industry; and through its dedication to the industrial community by participation in organizations that advance industry and manufacturing. LG&E Energy was selected as winner in the large business category by a panel of judges representing businesses, educational institutions and trade associations.

In announcing this year's recipient, AIK President and CEO Andrew Meko said, "Kentucky industries make enormous contributions to the quality of life in our state. LG&E Energy exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit, community leadership and policy contributions made by Kentucky industries to the economic success of our Commonwealth."

During 2003, LG&E Energy is credited with playing a fundamental role in bringing 5,301 jobs to Kentucky in addition to $711 million in investments.

"Having some of the lowest rates in the nation is certainly a great starting point," said George Siemens, LG&E Energy's Vice President of External Affairs. "Our employees then follow it up with excellent customer service, an outstanding safety record, a dedication to philanthropy, and involvement in trade associations and key groups that advance industry both on the local and national levels. It's a great formula that's difficult for others to match."
