Hundreds of Volunteers to Weatherize Local Homes in Project Warm Blitz

(LOUISVILLE, Ky. - November 2, 2004) With winter just around the corner, more than 200 LG&E Energy employees and their families are joining forces with volunteers from various businesses, schools, churches and community organizations to winterize homes for low-income senior citizens and the disabled over the next three Saturdays.

Dubbed the Weatherization Blitz, the 14th annual event is spearheaded by Project Warm and supported by LG&E Energy.

This year's Blitz will take place beginning Saturday, Nov. 6. It will continue over the next couple of Saturdays. The volunteers - working in teams of up to five people - hope to weatherize more than 250 homes during the three Saturdays. Participants focus on simple weatherization techniques, including hanging interior, plastic storm windows. The basic techniques can help customers save up to 25 percent on their heating bills.

"Colder weather and poor insulation can be the perfect storm for elderly people on a fixed income," said Walter Lay, executive director of Project Warm. "Instead of just helping people pay their bills, this helps solve their problem."

Dave Vogel, LG&E Energy's Vice President of Retail Services added: "We've been a partner with Project Warm since their inception in 1982, and ever since, thousands of families in our community have benefited from their weatherization and energy education services. We're proud to be involved in this effort."

Teams will gather each Saturday at LG&E's Broadway Office Complex, 701 S. 9th St. (Corner of 9th & Broadway), around 8:30 a.m. where they will be given weatherization materials.
