LG&E Energy Honored for Economic Development Efforts
(LOUISVILLE, Ky., August 10, 2004) - A national publication has ranked LG&E Energy, the holding company of Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company, as one of the 10 best utilities in the nation in terms of creating jobs and enticing capital investments in its service territory.
According to the September issue of Site Selection magazine, LG&E Energy ranks among the nation's best in its economic development efforts.
Site Selection surveys utilities on their economic development accomplishments. Then, it asks leading consultants to rank the utilities according to which are the most effective in serving corporate expansion needs.
During 2003, LG&E Energy is credited with playing a fundamental role in bringing 5,301 jobs to Kentucky in addition to the $711 million in investments.
"Having some of the lowest rates in the nation is certainly a great starting point," said Alan McGinnis, LG&E Energy's manager of economic development. "We then follow it up with outstanding service as well as terrific partnerships with our state and local economic development leaders. It's a great formula other states find difficult to match."
LG&E Energy LLC, headquartered in Louisville, Ky., is a diversified energy services company. LG&E Energy owns and operates Louisville Gas and Electric Company, a regulated utility that serves 312,000 natural gas and 384,000 electric customers in Louisville and 16 surrounding counties, and Kentucky Utilities Company, a regulated electric utility in Lexington, Ky., that serves 512,000 customers in 77 Kentucky counties and five counties in Virginia.
