It's Time for a Slam Dunk: Register Now for LG&E Energy Foundation Streetball Showdown
(Louisville, KY - May 7, 2004) Even though March has ended, the "Madness" will continue because this year's LG&E Energy Foundation Streetball Showdown is tipping off its registration today for the region's largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The 17th annual event features more than 3,500 players region-wide and more than 70,000 spectators. Proceeds from the event benefit the Cabbage Patch Settlement House, one of Louisville's oldest nonprofits, that has been meeting the spiritual, physical, social, emotional, moral and educational needs of at-risk children and their families since 1910.
The "June Madness" will take place June 26 and 27 at the intersection of Witherspoon Street and Preston Street near Louisville Slugger Field. Participants of all ages and skill level are encouraged to participate as the tournament has divisions for youth, men, women, co-eds, companies and wheelchair athletes. Teams will be placed into divisions based on age, height and level of experience.
Registration will occur through June 11 and requires four members per team, three players plus one alternative. All teams that sign up by May 28 make a "slam dunk" by saving twenty dollars on participation fees. To register, visit www.streetballshowdown.com or pick up a form at participating McDonald's restaurants.
This marks LG&E Energy Foundation's fourth consecutive year as the event's title sponsor. Other sponsors include Coca-Cola, Power Creative, Insight Communications, The Courier-Journal, Kiss 98.9 FM and McDonald's. Volunteer court monitors are provided by the Kentucky Basketball Officials Association.
"We depend on this event to provide at least 10 percent of our budget each year and we simply could not do it without sponsors like the LG&E Energy Foundation and other faithful supporters," said Tracy Holladay, executive director of The Cabbage Patch.
