LG&E to Host Women in Science and Engineering Expo

(LOUISVILLE, Ky. - March 25, 2004) Reinforcing a positive image and promoting the acceptance of women in science will be the focus of the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) expo, to be held this Friday, March 26, at the LG&E Building downtown.

Formed two years ago at duPont Manual High School, WiSE encourages female involvement in math and science classes, starting at an early age. LG&E will host the WiSE expo, where the focus will be to encourage young girls to proactively pursue science and math careers. By setting up the expo as a field trip for fifth-grade students, WiSE hopes to encourage female participation as well as male acceptance of women in math and science classes and fields.

The day-long expo also will focus on female self-esteem, using a video that examines the portrayal of women in advertising as model-perfect or unintelligent. More than 110 students from four area elementary schools will be attending. During the expo, students will participate in workshop stations administered by Dupont Manual's WiSE club members. This marks the second year LG&E has hosted the event.

LG&E is a wholly-owned subsidiary of LG&E Energy LLC that serves 312,000 natural gas and 384,000 electric customers in Louisville, Ky., and 16 surrounding counties.
