KU's E.W. Brown Generating Station Achieves Safety Milestone

(Mercer County, Ky. - March 22, 2004) Kentucky Utilities Company's (KU) E.W. Brown Generating Station employees recently celebrated a safety milestone, working more than one year without an Occupational Safety and Health Administration-recordable injury and more than seven years without a lost-time incident.

At a recent luncheon celebrating E.W. Brown Plant's success, John Voyles, LG&E Energy's vice president of Regulated Generation, praised the accomplishment: "This landmark safety accomplishment demonstrates how employees have embraced safety as a way of life. We are proud of their continued commitment to a safe working environment."

OSHA, a national organization whose mission is to ensure safe and healthful workplaces in America, has honored KU in the past for similar accomplishments. According to the National Safety Council (NSC), the average incident rate of OSHA-recordable injuries per year at power plants nationwide is 6.3. LG&E Energy Plants consistently rank far below the national average.

KU, based in Lexington, Ky., provides reliable, low-priced electric energy to more than 500,000 customers in 77 Kentucky counties and five counties in southwestern Virginia. KU is a subsidiary of LG&E Energy Corp., headquartered in Louisville, Ky.
