High Efficiency Lighting Program

How do I properly dispose of a CFL bulb?

Because they contain a small amount of mercury, you should take special steps when disposing of a Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb. Like paint or batteries or any other hazardous material, CFLs should not be placed in your garbage can.

The Home Depot locations throughout the LG&E and KU service territory have CFL disposal bins in each store. Visit www.homedepot.com/ecooptions for additional information about Home Depot's efforts to improve the environment.

You can also call 1-877-EARTH911 or visit www.earth911.org to find the location of the nearest CFL recycling center.
