Palm of a hand holding a small globe

For as little as $5 each month, KU and LG&E now offer you the opportunity to offset the carbon impact of your electricity usage.

For each $5 purchase of LG&E or KU Green Energy, we ensure that 300 kWh of pure renewable energy is delivered onto the Kentucky transmission grid from the Mother Ann Lee hydroelectric plant on the Kentucky River.

Green Energy enrollments are needed to fund the growth of generation capacity at the Mother Ann Lee hydro plant. Join today, and help us make the future greener for the next generation.

By purchasing Green Energy, thank you for supporting the operation and growth of renewable energy in Kentucky.

The kilowatt-hours (kWhs) above represent the resource makeup of each 300 kWh block of Green Energy you have purchased from KU/LG&E. Your direct electricity supply contains the following mix of resources: Coal (97%), Natural Gas (2%), and Large Hydroelectric (1%).

1 These figures reflect the Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) that we have contracted to provide from renewable energy resources. Actual figures may vary according to resource availability. We will annually report to you the actual resource mix of the Green Energy you purchased during the preceding year. By purchasing and retiring renewable energy certificates from specific eligible renewable facilities, we ensure that electricity is delivered to the regional power grid from the promised renewable resources equal to your Green Energy purchase. Average residential KU and LG&E customers use 900 kWh of electricity per month. Three blocks of Green Energy is therefore required to match average electricity consumption.

2 New Renewables are generation facilities in operation on or after January 1, 1997.
